Momate Ointment is a topical corticosteroid, with mometasone furoate as its active ingredient, applied directly to the skin to help calm irritated, red, or itchy areas. Being a steroid-based ointment, it works by reducing the local immune response in the skin, but this also means it needs to be used exactly as directed rather than for longer than necessary. Some people notice a mild burning or stinging feeling right after application, and with extended or excessive use, skin thinning, stretch marks, or increased hair growth at the site can occur. If this is new to you, it's helpful to know that a small amount spread thinly is usually all that's needed, and covering the area with a bandage isn't recommended unless your doctor specifically says so.
